Mesotherapy, Watch Fat & Cellulite Dissolve

Mesotherapy, a non-surgical cellulite treatment was developed in France over 50 years ago. It is a minimally invasive procedure that reduces cellulite and "dissolves" fat. It is also a non-surgical alternative to liposuction in treatment of small areas of fatty deposits, in particular, those stubborn areas resistant to diet and exercise.

Fatty areas such as the abdomen, thighs, under arms and "love handles" - those pockets of fat that just won’t go away, are frequent targets. Mesotherapy is particularly appropriate for these smaller, targeted areas whereas liposuction can remove fat from much larger areas.

Treatment sessions take approximately 20 minutes and can be done as frequently as 2 weeks apart. If there is swelling, treatments can be spread out over a longer period of time. Side effects are minimal; the primary side effect is bruising, which generally fades within one week. The beauty of Mesotherapy is that there is very little down time following treatments. In fact, most people can return to work and daily activities immediately. In contrast to liposuction there is no need for anesthetics, no pressure suits or special wound dressing required.

Mesotherapy introduces microscopic quantities of natural extracts, homeopathic pharmaceuticals and vitamins into the skin to treat various conditions. The advantage of this form of treatment is that the medication is delivered directly to the target site.

Treatment includes small injections of pharmaceutical grade agents, including phosphatidylcholine (PPC), normal saline and local anesthetic to the target area. These agents break down the walls of fatty cells and flush the waste through the urinary system. Mesotherapy also improves lymphatic drainage, improves circulatory system flow and breaks up the fibrous connective tissue that causes the dimpling appearance of cellulite. Breakdown of these walls helps get rid of the "cottage cheese" look. This results in smoother looking skin, without the dimples.

The number of treatment sessions required varies between individuals and their overall treatment goals. "The best candidates for this procedure are people with small, stubborn areas they just can’t get rid of no matter how much they diet and exercise", says Toni Grant, R.N. from The Medical Spa at Summerlin. "As long as people are realistic about their expectations, this is a great therapy for many providing they remain compliant with their portion control, exercise and water intake."

With dietary and exercise compliance, Mesotherapy can be used effectively for body sculpting, by eliminating fat or cellulite from the problem areas. The results are good and treatment areas will remain free of the unwanted fat as long as a healthy diet and proper exercise is maintained.
