Multiple Choices in Healing
Raise your hand if you like needles, medications and surgeries. Any takers? Wouldn't you rather just have a massage? Me too. But, can a massage really help your medical condition - I mean, really? Experts seem to thinks so. Dr. Devin Luzod of Spinal Care of Nevada says, “deep tissue massage is one of the most effective forms of natural healing.”
Dr. Luzod is not the only one singing the praises of massage therapy. In December 2004, the Los Angeles times quoted Dr. Gregory P. Fontana, a cardiothoracic surgeon at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, as saying “clearly there are medical benefits to massage.” Dr. Ka-Kit Hui, director of UCLA's East-West Center in Santa Monica continued, “massage is a very important therapeutic approach which is underutilized and underappreciated. A lot of people think massage is good for aches and pains. But what we have found is that massage activates the body's own healing system.”
Most of us are aware of the benefits massage can have on muscle soreness and joint pain, but what about stress, anxiety, recovering from surgery, and sleep disorders. It can even help you stop smoking. Who knew? Then again, who cares what the experts say unless their pain has been stomped out as a result of medical massage therapy? Well, we have found her. Shani Marandola suffered from a herniated disk years ago.
Thousands of dollars later, she found that medical doctors and injections had gotten her no closer to healthy. It was then that a massage instructor introduced her to a new way of thinking about healing. Massage not only led her down the path of recovery, it also became her career and passion.
In conjunction with Dr. Luzod, Shani helps patients avoid needles, medications, and even surgeries. She is not only a licensed massage therapist, she has also had advanced training in medical massage including in depth studies in kinesiology and anatomy. What that means is she knows the muscles in the body so well that she could find where your pain is with her eyes closed. But she wouldn't.
